Kids, especially boys love Bionicles. I know my son read his entire set of Bionicles books, given to him by his aunt over and over again. He loves his Bionicles toys which look like some machine based science fiction escapee to me.

Anyway, the Bionicles are about the Toas. 6 Toas each controlling one of the 6 elements sent to deliver the people from the evil that ruled their island.
The Toas had become the half hero half Hordika (beast) creatures, the Toa Hordika. They were formerly heros, captured by their spiderlike foes and transformed into these half beast creatures. The beast half is instinctively destructive and has to be kept in check by the hero half. Hence, the Toa Hordikas are constantly searching for a cure.
Each Bionicle has a different set of powers, which kids find really cool.
