Pixar Wall-E movie review

Wall-E, the latest robot animation movie is a lot better than I expected. My husband and I brought our kids to watch Wall-E and everyone agrees that this is the best family movie we had seen together so far.

The start of the movie was a little boring. I missed proper dialogue. All Wall-E and EVA can say are their names, and Directive. The early part of the story was told without words. With Wall-E, the trash collecting and garbage compacting robot going about his daily work, with his best pal, the cockroach.

Along comes EVA and Wall-E is smitten. Unfortunately, EVA is a very modern lady robot whose agressiveness (read zapping everything in sight) scares Wall-E. Still, the little garbage collecting robot sets out to win her heart.

Eva has a directive to fulfill and has to report plant life back to her superiors on the space ship, so when Wall-E presents her a living plant, her directive kicks in and she shuts down. Wall-E, not having any idea what happened, tries to woo her anyway, until the spaceship returns to collect EVA.

The story picks up when Wall-E stows away on the space ship, in an attempt to get to Eva.

What sets this movie apart from most mindlessly entertaining cartoons and movies are the grown up themes.

For one thing, Wall-E is working to clean up the earth so that it is inhabitable again. We see how humans, with all the pollution and lack of concern for the environment now have to flee to space since the Earth can no longer support life. Humans on board the luxury aircraft where machines do everything and humans only have to lie down on their recliners and get transported everywhere, have become completely reliant on machines and can no longer do anything for themselves. They can't even get up and get on their recliners if they fall off. We also see the machines taking charge. 2001 A Space Odysey comes to mind.

A worthwhile movie to bring the kids too. They would probably want Christmas gifts to do with Wall-E so stock up on these Wall-E toys as gifts for Christmas because when Christmas shopping season arrives, toys like these are likely to go out of stock when you do need them.
