The original Robin was Dick Grayson. A circus acrobat. A member of the Flying Graysons. His entire family was killed when their act was sabotaged. Bruce saw himself in young Richard. He adopted Dick Grayson and brought him up as his ward.
Bruce taught Dick the tricks of the crime fighting trade. Dick Grayson became the first Robin. With time, he grew up, went on his own and became NightWing.

Robin #177
Facing some of the toughest criminals and monsters known to man is nothing compared to dealing with your on again/off again, back-from-the-dead girlfriend's enraged deadbeat dad! A not-so-happy reunion puts Robin between Spoiler and Cluemaster and this time, he's not so easy to get rid of.

Robin #180
Written by Fabian Nicieza Art and cover by Freddie E. Williams II As the Gotham youth gangs run rampant and the 'blue-flu' sweeps the indignant Gotham police force, Robin faces off against a surprising yet familiar foe. And what role does Spoiler play in this opponent's grand scheme? On sale November 19 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US

Robin #179
'Search for a Hero' continues as Robin tries to save one young boy from drowning in the tidal wave of gang warfare drenching a newly anarchic Gotham City. But why does Ragman not want the boy to be saved? And why is Spoiler paying a visit to the General?
The next Robin was a boy named Jason. He treated crime fighting as a game and was eventually killed by Joker. Bruce has never forgiven himself for Jason's death. An interesting note was that the death of Robin (Jason) was a decision made by the readers. Jason was beaten up by joker and left in an explosion. The readers were to vote whether Robin lives or dies. The verdict, death.
The third, and current Robin is Tim Drake. Living in the shadow of the 2 earlier Robins. A very smart kid who deduced Batman's, and Nightwing's secret identities. He managed Bruce to mentor him as the new Robin.
