My son"s favourite Transformer is Optimus Prime. He brought his precious optimus prime action figure for his show and tell in school a few days ago, after rehearsing his speech for us for weeks before that. Optimus Prime is the leader of the Autobots. The good guys. The bad guys are after the Decepticons. Both groups are after the All-Spark which turns any machine or gadget into a living being. Optimus Prime and the transformers want to rebuild their homeworld with the All Spark while the Decepticons want to use it to conquer the universe. (Why is it in every such movie, the bad guys want to conquer the universe? Can"t writers come up with something more creative?)

I was never fond of the Transformers, even as a kid, so I was shocked that my sister was so excited about the Transformers movie. She"s a grown woman and a mom too. As a kid, she loved the Transformers. My sons would show me all the things their transformers can do. Change from car or truck or van to robot, or in the case of the decepticons, from a jet or tank to a robot and back again. Optimus prime is a huge, colorful truck in his vehicle form. He is also self sacrificial by nature, willing to give us his life in battle for the survival of autobots and humans.
